GET TO KNOW OUR COMPOSERS: ANNE HARRIS
A Roots and Blues musician greatly influenced by the diverse sonic sounds surrounding her upbringing, violinist Anne Harris began playing at the age of three. Harris began formal lessons at the age of ten, however found the experience too restrictive, explaining, “classical music is too rigid.”
After studying at the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Harris moved to Chicago where she found work in theater and commercials. Her work in music includes performing with Chicago groups The Juleps and Poi Dog Pondering.
As a solo artist, Harris released her self-titled debut with Rugged Road Records in 2001. Harris has gone on to perform at the 2002 North by Northeast Festival and open for Angelique Kidjo. She has toured the world with artists Otis Taylor and Sodie Reed. This year Harris worked with filmmaker Mark Schimmel, starring in and scoring the Chicago short indie film, The Musician.
